Let's talk about lots of unscheduled time for being bored.
Boredom stimulates kid's creativity which leads to problem solving and a sense of accomplishment. When you let them take the lead, anything can happen. so, don't engage when they are bored--they can solve their boredom if they have supplies and tools.
Creative project supplies include:
Cardboard and Cardboard boxes
Big paper of all kinds - tissue, drawing, finger paint
Tapes of all kind - duct, packing tape, scotch tape, first aid tape
Glue, glue sticks and paste like mod podge
Pieces of fabric like table cloths, curtains, sheets, scarves
Clothesline and clothes pins
Markers, crayons and water based paint
Capes, dress-ups and hats
Swords, light sabers and other imaginary weapons
Small suitcase or buckets
Trays of legos
Trays of beads and pipe cleaners or elastic string
Blocks and little play people
Water play in the bath tub, sprinkler, water balloons, slip and slide, baby pool

You don't need all of these, though you may have this and more by the time your kids are teens!
I've compiled a few favorite foods and crafts to make and there will be a new one on the website every day. Read through the Summer Camp Guide on the website and finalize your summer schedule before they fill up. Next week be on the look-out for the New Paltz-Newburgh Farm Stand and U-Pick Guide for fun you can eat!
